How listings work

Who teaches Carnatic and Hindustani music and classical dance in Dallas–Fort Worth is mostly passed on by word of mouth, temple notice boards and WhatsApp groups. This is an attempt to write it down in one place — accurately, and saying where each fact came from.

The two kinds of listing

Confirmed
The details come from the school itself — its own website or social page, or the school wrote to us.25 of 57 listings.
Listed
The details come from a community directory, such as the IFAA DFW school directory. The school is real and reachable, but hasn't confirmed the details with us. Many excellent teachers have no website at all, so this is not a mark against them.32 of 57 listings.

What gets listed

A school or teacher is listed when a person has checked four things:

  1. Classical — it teaches at least one Indian classical form: Carnatic or Hindustani music, vocal or instrumental, or a classical dance. Film, light, fusion or folk alone isn't listed.
  2. In DFW — it teaches in the Metroplex, or is DFW-based and also teaches online.
  3. Active — there's a sign of teaching in the last year: a recital, a post, a reply.
  4. Reachable and sourced — there's a way to reach them, and the details come from the school itself or a curated community list. A commercial lessons marketplace is a lead to follow up, never enough on its own.

Some names wait while we check — for a reply, a second source, or whether they still teach. Those aren't shown until they pass.

If a detail isn't published, the listing says so rather than guessing. You'll often see “ages: not published — ask”. That's deliberate: a confident wrong answer is worse than an honest gap.

Checking and re-checking

Every listing shows the date someone last checked it. Listings are re-checked at least every 120days; ones that can't be reached are taken down rather than left to go stale.

Concerts are taken from presenters' own pages and flyers. There are 11 on file so far.

Privacy

Many teachers teach from home, so street addresses aren't published unless the school uses a public venue. This site has no accounts and keeps nothing about you.

Corrections and removals

If you teach at a listed school, you can send a correction and we'll confirm it with you using the contact details already on the listing. If you'd rather not be listed, say so and the listing comes down.
